Alternative Healing and How It Can Benefit You

Alternative healing has been growing in popularity recently. Many people are realizing that a lot of the more traditional healing techniques from big pharmaceutical companies and modern medical practices often seem to concern themselves more with turning a profit rather than treating those in need. With new studies showing the dangerous effects of drugs and surgeries coming out daily, more and more people are looking towards the more natural therapies that alternative healing provides.

So what is alternative healing? It's any healing method that is not normally found in the realm of conventional medicine, and is based primarily on historical and cultural traditions. Let's take a look at the most widespread alternative healing classifications.

Alternative Healing Classifications

1. Mind-Body Medicine

This technique places a great deal of importance on the interconnection of mind and body. Studies have shown over the years of lifespan increasing when people have a positive mental outlook and are happy. This is the root of mind-body medicine. The mind is very powerful and still we are only just scratching the surface on its capabilities, and there is little doubt that using the mind properly can favorably influence our health.

2. Biology Based Practices

Perhaps the most widely used of the alternative healing techniques, biology based practices use naturally occurring substances such as minerals, vitamins, and plants found in nature to maintain and improve health.

3. Manipulative Body Practices

You are probably already familiar with manipulative body practices. Chiropractic manipulation has been popular for many years now and is used by professional athletes to maintain their peak physical condition, and also used to help the average man or woman suffering from back pain. Manipulative body practices are simply the movement of body parts to help with health.

4. Energy Medicine

A very popular alternative healing classification is energy medicine. This involves energy fields surrounding the body being manipulated through various means to cause good health and cure ailments. The ancient Chinese referred to this energy as chi. It also involves bioelectromagnetic therapies such as the popular magnetic therapy applications being used today.

5. Whole Medical Systems

This is a combination of the previously mentioned alternative healing classifications. A good example would be traditional Chinese medicine that combine energy medicine with body based practices like acupuncture, and biology based practices using ancient herbs and plants as medicines.

The terms classifying alternative healing may seem new to you, but after reading about them I bet you recognized quite a few of the treatments in the descriptions. You may already take a daily vitamin which is a form of biology based alternative healing. Maybe you have been to the chiropractor before. Maybe you are familiar with a healthy attitude leading to a healthy body, or have seen ads for magnetic therapy procedures.

If you have done some form of all of these things you have been practicing a whole medical system class of alternative healing. Research some alternative healing options a little more on your own. This will allow you to take even better advantage of it and to be as healthy as you can be.
